This was a writing intensive course where we were asked to submit an assignment each week focusing on a different issue relating to our area of interest. This course greatly helped in developing my written communication and research skills.

Survey of Accounting Principles
ACCT 209
In this general overview of accounting, I learned valuable financial skills used to create and read financial statements. Documents we focused on were balance sheets, cash flow statements, and income statements.
Technical Business Writing
ENGL 210
This class overviewed general written professional skills such as composing emails, submitting letters of interests, and submitting proposals. I already have seen the benefits of proper communication skills not only between fellow employees, but also clients whom I communicate with via email.
Floral Design
HORT 203
In this general overview of the art of Floral design, we focused on main artistic elements and principles of design. We also created many geometric designs and discussed when they are most appropriately used in decor. This class helped me develop my dcor creating skills for events in general.
Special Event Design and Planning
HORT 454
For this class, we focused on the pricing and planning for large special events. We helped set-up for two events where we were asked to build a structurally strong tower for one of them. This class allowed me to have hands on knowledge of implementing events day-of.
Applicable Tourism Principles
RPTS 302
In this course, we looked at the main theories driving the strategies for tourism business. This course really introduced me into the vast extent of recreation, park, and tourism job opportunities and the driving forces behind the services and goods they offer.
Wedding Floral Design
HORT 452
This floral design course focused on wedding designs such as bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, and altar pieces. This course focused heavy on client relations and developing contracts.I found the knowledge gained regarding contracts was extremely influential.
Business Information System Concepts
ISYS 209
For this class, we learned how to operate microsoft excel and access on a surface level. Prior to this class, I did not realise how essential both of these applications could be in generating reports for a business.
Planning and Implementing Events and Programs
RPTS 311
This introductory course into planning events helped to expand my basic knowledge of event implementation as well as solidify my passion for events. RPTS 311 focused on primary event planning skills such as setting goals, risk management, timelines, and scheduling for events.
Senior Seminar
HORT 481
In this senior seminar class, we completed many influential projects to prepare for job searching and preparedness following graduation. The major project completed was this website portfolio. I enjoyed how the class encouraged me to reflect on myself and my readiness for a desired jobs. It allowed me to see areas in which I can improve on prior to graduation.
Internship
HORT 484
I completed a full time internship at the Event Services Department for the University Center and Special Events. This position gave me the most practical application of many skills learned in my classes. I was also able to further develop my knowledge in regulatory paperwork and time management.
Event Management and Operation I
RPTS 320
This course built on knowledge and skills developed in RPTS 311. Lessons went into further detail regarding design and decor elements, risk management, and practical application of earlier learned information. Several guest speakers added to the practical application of these skills in several fields of event planning.
Recreation, Parks, and Tourism and Division of Populations
RPTS 340
This course looked in depth at management functions such as regulatory and risk analysis, financial functions, organizational layout, and marketing strategies. This course opened my eyes to the full extent of knowledge a manager needs to have when operating a business.
Tourism Management
RPTS 423
This course has greatly helped me to develop my management and leadership style. The course focuses on the many various aspects a manager can face, including: strategic goals, conflict resolution, organization structure, financial analysis, marketing, and human resource allocation, risk management, and facility maintenance to name a few. I strongly believe this course has helped me pin point areas where I wish to grow and develop my skills as leader as well as understand the realities of managing a business.
